We are located in the heart of the downtown area on Abu Dhabi Island! While we are enjoying our first year as GEMS World Academy, we are experienced and ready in a variety of ways. Our 2011-2012 school year is underway and we proudly boast a blend of highly qualified and experienced staff, a plentiful supply of resources and educational learning tools, and a spacious and secure campus that includes an updated facility fully suited and designed to house primary years’ learners. We are also a GEMS school. GEMS Education is a global, multi faceted education company which owns, operates, and provides education support services to both the public and private sectors. Some of our staff are veterans of GEMS American Academy and have taught right here on campus for one or more years, while others have gained experience elsewhere in the world, having been recruited for their talents and expertise. All have done a wonderful job of blending their experiences as members of the GWA Faculty in order to deliver an outstanding educational experience to our students. Learning experiences by and large are participatory, active, hands-on and enjoyable.
As Founding Principal/CEO, I bring eighteen years of experience as a Principal from a small New Hampshire, USA school coupled with three years of recent international experience as ES Principal at Dubai American Academy (a school of over 1,250 elementary students) to GEMS World Academy ~ Abu Dhabi.
As is consistent with GEMS premium schools, parents can expect that the GWA experience will include high academic standards, cutting-edge practices and a variety of after school activities geared toward young children. We are creating a community of young learners and will celebrate achievements both social and academic throughout the year as children experience the process of learning to learn. Much like our sister school – GEMS American Academy ~ Abu Dhabi, we will be both American and international in our identity. We will celebrate internationalism, recognize the uniqueness of each nationality represented among our students and build appreciation of American culture and approaches to education. Our educational standards are from the USA, as are many of our teachers and most of our teaching resources.
This website is designed to introduce you to GEMS World Academy ~ Abu Dhabi and provide you with a window in to our learning community which will result in engagement. Once engaged, we promise to provide an educational program that will exceed your goals as parents and your child’s previous experiences as a learner.
We have expressed our intention to seek accreditation from the International Baccalaureate Organization for their Primary Years Program. GEMS Core Values which include Forward Thinking, World Citizenship, Universal Values, and Leadership will be infused into our programs and offerings as we continue down the path leading to Primary Years Program (PYP) authorization. Recognizing the qualities and benefits that we will derive from gaining PYP authorization, we value and focus our energies on developing the “whole” individual—social, emotional, intellectual and physical. As a new, emerging premium school, we recognize accreditation as an important process as we develop and commit to continuous improvement.
