Comendo A/S, the listed IT Group, is a pioneer in Scandinavia within Managed Services. Since our foundation in 2002, it has been our ambition to make IT services easy to manage and maintain for our customers, without compromising the highest level of security on the market.
In recent years Comendo A/S has acquired companies such as Virus112 A/S, Telsome ApS, Consisto A/S, Netmore A/S, Cura Digital Insurance, Hosting2 ApS and IP Danmark A/S.
Comendo A/S therefore provides solutions within IT security, IP and mobile telephony, WAN solutions, Remote Backup, as well as hosting and outsourcing server parks for companies. Our advanced data network consists of nine fiber connections and three highly secure data centres with full failover.
More than 300 partners sell our solutions and we currently have around 30,000 corporate customers. We have offices in both Northen Europe and United Arab Emirates.
Comendo began its activities in July, 2002, when founder of the company Martin Sundahl and his two friends Sten and Chris wanted to offer businesses better security on the Internet. Martin Sundahl already had extensive experience of working with Internet-based services as, since 1996, he had been working on providing Webhosting, amongst other solutions.
The idea now was to create better security for businesses that used the Internet, but in a broader sense, starting with just one product and then expanding to include a whole range. It was clear from the start that if the company was to sell Internet security, first of all it had to inspire confidence in its products. That is why the first product had to prove to the customer that it worked and that it also improved the customer’s situation. An obvious choice was therefore to pick a product that could improve e-mail security on the Internet. A close dialogue with customers ensured the creation of a product that met with their expectations. It quickly became apparent that there was a gap in the market, but a large sales effort was still required to find new customers.
With the ever increasing spread and use of the Internet, new challenges such as spam appeared, and so the next obvious product choice for the company became to reduce and ideally completely remove unwanted mail traffic. The company had already, after just one year of operation, established a strong customer base and was therefore now in a position to offer existing customers the new product. As customer satisfaction for the first product was clearly positive, it became that much easier to sell product number two. It proved to the company that the idea of offering a whole range of products to its customers was the right one. It was also important that the products were targeted towards problems that customers actually wanted solved.
To provide such solutions required an organisation that was quick to respond and had a strong, close contact with the market. In order to fulfil such criteria, Comendo acquired Virus112 A/S in September 2004 and Hosting2 ApS in April 2006. The acquisitions brought both a stronger partner and sales channel as well as a new segment with co-location and outsourcing.
In order to strengthen the IT security segment further, the company acquired Lindhardt Datasikkerhed A/S in February 2007, which then changed its name to Consisto A/S. The acquisition in June, 2007 of Telsome ApS meant that IP and mobile telephony could now also be offered to the company’s customers.
Virus112 A/S functions as a sales channel for Comendo’s products and Hosting2 ApS provides hosting services to the customer base. Consisto A/S sells antivirus software both directly and via their partner network. Telsome ApS offers VoIP (IP telephony) and mobile telephony via their partner network.
The company now provides a whole range of different products, all related to security and services on the Internet. Sales in Sweden and Norway were strengthened when Virus112 was set up in both these countries. Later, Comendo Spain was set up to sell the company's products in this area via resellers. Telsome ApS also markets and sells their products in Spain.
The product portfolio was further strengthened in 2008 with Remote Backup as a service via the acquisition of Cura Digital Insurance and the IP and mobile telephony segment was strengthened by the acquisition of IPDanmark, a solid IP telephony supplier with a wide knowledge and insight of the SMV market.
All services are supplied online and it was therefore obvious that the company should look for a business which expertise lay in the supply and implementation of all types of connections to the Internet. This was found in the young, dynamic company of Netmore. Netmore was a well run company with experience of supplying speedy and preferably redundant Internet connections. The final acquisition of Netmore became a reality at the end of 2008 and the Company can now offer its customers services within 4 categories: Security, Network, Telecoms and Hosting.
