I am honored and delighted to welcome you all to what has so far been an exciting 2023/2024 academic year at Al Dhafra Private Schools Al Ain. For the last 35 years, Al Dhafra Private Schools has been a cornerstone of the educational community in Al Ain and an example of a family school whose core values are at the heart of everything we do for our students. قد تأثر الحقيبة الثقيلة سلبا على العمود الفقري لابناءنا ونحن ملتزمون بالمحافظة على صحتهم.

We would like to remind you of the importance of regularly monitoring the weight of your child's school bag, and making sure it is within the recommended limits. The impact of heavy bags on your child's spine can be significant and we are committed to protecting their health.
In alignment with the Department Of Education And Knowledge(ADEK) policy regarding the weight of school bags, it is recommended that a child’s school bag should not exceed 20% of their body weight to avoid any adverse effects on their spine and body.

UAE Union Day updates and impact on Exam timetable
Dear Parents,
We hope this finds you well.
Following recent updates received from ADEK regarding the UAE Union Day Holiday, please note Friday, December 1 will be a school day with distance learning for all students KG-12.
Kindly also note that Monday, December 4 will be a holiday and school will resume operations on Tuesday 5th of December.
For grades 1-5 students, reading assessments previously scheduled to take place on the 4th of December will take place on the 28th of November.
For grades 6-12 students, assessments previously scheduled to take place on the 4th of December will be conducted on Tuesday, the 28th of November. Necessary subjects’ changes have also been made for the originally planned Grade 11 and Grade 12 Mathematics subjects to the ones shown below as to give students more time to better prepare for demanding content in the mathematics exams.
Tuesday 28th November 6 to 12 Exams:
Grade 6: Islamic Studies
Grade 7: Mathematics
Grade 8: Biology
Grade 9 American: Physics
Grade 10 American: History
Grade 11 American: English
Grade 12 American: Arabic
Further details will follow next week.
Please note that the timing of 28th November will start at 8 and dismissal time gates will open for parents at 9:45 and buses will leave at 10am.

Please find below links to the updated exam timetables spread over the end of term 1 and start of term 2; slight technical adjustments to the timetables have been made*. Please be aware that we do not have revision days from home for students leading up to final exam dates as curriculum and therefore exam content will be taught up to the days prior to exams start dates. We want to stress the importance of the timings, arrival and dismissal, as well as guidelines regarding breakdown of the days; please read these thoroughly.

We hope you and your families are well. As promised, we are sharing an official document from the MOE regarding graduation requirement changes. It is good news with more options.
Decree 883 which stipulates tracks for graduation and the use of EmSAT exams only for equivalency in the American curriculum has been repealed for this academic year. In its place, Decree 199 is back in effect. Attached is the new memorandum repealing 883 in Arabic. The official English version from the MOE has not been provided yet. You may copy the text into Google translate in the meantime to confirm this announcement. Decree 199 is available in English and Arabic on our website.

Over the holiday, we learned of proposed new regulations regarding EmSAT exams. Unless we receive
official written notification as a memorandum or circular from ADEK to Al Dhafra Private School, we will
proceed according to Ministerial Resolution 883, Article 5, Section 1, Item 4
(https://alain.dhafraschools.com/exams/Equivalency-American-Curriculum/). The latest EmSAT
requirements are stated below.
American Curriculum:
• Register for Physics, Arabic, Mathematics, and English exams for high school equivalency.
• Obtain a minimum passing mark of English 1100 and Mathematics 500.
• Check university and scholarship requirements for minimum passing marks and necessary
subjects.
British Curriculum:
• Not required for high school equivalency.

Based on the circular we received from ADEK, we would like to inform you about the updated routine Covid testing as below.
Students aged below 16 years old(vaccinated and non vaccinated) need to do the test every 30 days.
Students aged 16 years and above (vaccinated and approved exemption reflected on Al Hosn App )need to do the test every 14 days and green pass on Al Hosn App.
Students aged 16 years old and above need to do the test every 7 days.
Students aged below 16 and students aged 16 and above (vaccinated and approved exemption) can avail in-school testing upon requirments.
Un-vaccinated above 16 students need to make additional arrangements to maintain 7 days test validity.
Students can also do the test in any designated center.
Note:
Students below 12 years and Students Of Determination can do saliva test in some designated center.

Based on the governmental decision circular # PE/K12E2022/017 that we received from ADEK.
Kindly fill in the attached forms ( Heath Declaration Form & Travel Return Form ) if the student attend the school for the first time this year & send it via email as below .
Students aged 16 years & above should present the vaccination certificate or exempted certificate ,in addition vaciniated students need to do Covid test every 28 days & exempted students need to do the test every 7 days.

I am writing to you regarding the decision to apply for exemption. After discussions with students and teachers of Grade 11BR we have decided to apply for an exemption in the practical science(s) - Physics, Biology and Chemistry.
This decision is based on the reduced time students have spent in the lab. Owing to distance learning and teachers having to isolate, students have had a lot less time then we and them would have liked. Therefore, the double lessons will be assigned as theory and they will support the students in focusing on the theory papers.
This means the students can achieve the highest they can in the practical element to support the calculation of their grade.

Additionally, the form requires a photocopy of a signed and stamped invoice. This means that your CIE invoice is now with the school and we are ready for you to come in and pay the balance to proceed. Please ensure you have a valid PCR to enter the school. We are now coming to the end of the time when parents can choose between face to face and online learning. There have been a large number of parents wanting to join face to face. As you know we are restricted in numbers by the compliance regulations and this has forced us to run alternate weeks.
We have noticed some parents have opted for face to face but the students have not come to school. One or two parents have given prior notice of this but most have not. In order to help those who want face to face but have no space, we will be contacting parents of students who don’t turn up and removing them from the list where possible.

We are now up and running and looking forward to a smooth term ahead. We thank you for your enormous cooperation and understanding at what has been an incredibly busy time.
We all need to remain aware that Covid is here and that we cannot just return to normal because the school is more open. ADEK advice is to have communication with parents either by phone, email, or Zoom etc. Please can we ask you to use these methods of communicating rather than entering the school.
We understand that people need to come into school to register and pay, although there are online methods which we have recommended.

FAO Parents of Face to Face Students in the Orange Group KG1 to G8 &Gr9-12.

We are looking forward to welcoming your children in school next week.
ADEK have informed us that we are not allowed to stagger the return next week and, therefore, everyone in the orange group will be able to come to school on Sunday.
This will be a large number of people and it will need patience and care from everyone.
If you have already uploaded your declaration forms, thank you very much. If you have not, you will now need to print them out and bring them with you.

Greetings from Al Dhafra.
Thank you for your patience in receiving details of the new term. We have had changes made every day up until now and have only been able to finalise our plans.
All lessons will begin on Monday 30th August.
Face to face lessons will be staggered. We have had a large number of parents request face to face learning and this means that to remain safe with social distancing we will be running on alternate weeks.
We have created a folder of information regarding the start of term including an introductory letter in Arabic and English. This can be opened here

For safety, we will only have certain grades on certain days in the first fortnight. This will allow us to make sure everything works safety wise and allow parents to make a change. Please note any such change can only be made at the end of the first fortnight. Please see all the details in the introductory letter. If you think your child should be coming face to face and they are not on the list please email Mr Roger at rmcduff@dhafraschools.com. Please remember that all students must have a PCR test no older than 14 days to enter school. Students can get a free test on Wednesday 1st September at the AL AIn Sports Centre Al Qattara.

Dear Parents,
Thank you for choosing Al Dhafra Private Schools as your testing center.
Per ADEK regulations:
• You must have a PCR test within 96 hours of Saturday morning.
• We will NOT accept DPI tests.
• If your child is 16 years of age, then they must have the 1st vaccine stamp on the Hosn App.
• Non-vaccinated students with a valid PCR test may take the test, but will be placed in a separate room from vaccinated students.

Discontinuation of SAT Subject and SAT with Essay
• After June 2021, SAT Subject and the essay portion of the SAT exams will no longer exist. Students who take SAT Subject exams for equalization in their home countries should check with the Ministry of Education in their home country to see how this affects the process.
